Various molds like Aspergillus can produce toxic chemical compounds that damage cellular function. The mold itself can trigger immune reactions which drive inflammation, but mycotoxins (aka mold toxins) have their own chemical properties when targeted against the kidneys and liver which can lead to detoxification interference.
